Before addressing why sailing is better than golf, another distinction is appropriate. I can often tell if a person plays golf, as opposed to tennis. Golfer have better hands and appreciate the effect that the wind has on their game. Tennis players power through the shot and ignore the wind since it has only a short-term impact on the ball. As a result, tennis players tend to oversteer the wheel or spin it indiscriminately. Golfer steer more attentively and play the wind to their advantage by spilling gusts (close haul) or going to a beam reach temporarily.

Having said that and regardless of tennis, golfing is still less fun than sailing.

  1. Everyone comes home happy.

  2. Sand traps (reefs) are easily avoided.

  3. It’s cooler out there than on the course.

  4. You don’t have to lug a big bag around.

  5. Seagulls are way cuter than geese.

  6. You don’t lose any balls.

  7. You can enjoy an extended conversation.

  8. You won’t learn any new swear words.

  9. You won’t sprain any muscles.

  10. It’s harder to park, but more satisfying to do so.
