Sailing with Strings

??????????While in graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh, Mitchell Warmbein got the opportunity of a lifetime to become a paid singer in the chorus of the Pittsburgh Symphony. “Then something else happened,” he said while sailing the York River. “The symphony organized the ‘Singing City’ chorus, led by musical director Manfred Honeck, in which 3,000 chorus members from churches throughout the community joined forces at the Pitt arena. Among other works, “We sang Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, his great symphony. It was wonderful.” I asked about the acoustics, and Matthew’s wife Molly responded, “It didn’t matter, it was so magnificent to hear.”
