Proud Army Parents
Dorrie and Mark Tripp went sailing after they came up from the Orlando area. He’s getting ready to buy a 32 Seaward sailboat that is light enough to trailer. While in Williamsburg, they visited their 18-year-old son at Ft. Eustis. He’s undergoing intensive training to maintain and repair UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, which cost $21 million apiece. “We’re very proud of him and his choices,†Dorrie said. He completed his 10-week basic training at Ft. Campbell, Ky., but Dorrie said they’re cutting that to 7 weeks due to federal sequestration. I got to thinking: By that logic they should cut the 18-week Black Hawk training to 13 weeks, putting the helicopters at risk. Yet, reducing basic training puts the lives of our soldiers at greater risk. Go figure.
