Long Island Visitors
Seri Diamond of Valley Stream on Long Island took her family sailing in the warm winds of the York River. Her mother Fran responded to questions about the lingering effects of Hurricane Sandy. She and her husband took in four families comprising 27 people. Each family was packed into their own bedroom, and they wound up staying for weeks. Many people are still without power or livable space. Virginians recall Isabel ten years ago, but it was nothing like Sandy. One upshot is that you won’t see many children here named Isabel, or in metro New York named Sandy.
